Dr Marti specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the breast, thyroid & parathyroid glands.  

Breast Conditions treated: 

  • Breast cancer, DCIS, male breast cancer, Paget disease
  • "High Risk Lesions": LCIS, atypia, ADH, ALH, radial scar, papilloma/papillary lesion, mutation carrier (e.g. BRCA), fibroepithelial lesion

Surgical expertise in breast surgery:

  • Lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, excisional biopsy
  • Localization of small lesions with needle/wire or 125-I seeds
  • Mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary lymph node dissection
  • Oncoplastic surgery
  • Active surveillance might be an option for some patients with DCIS, as part of the COMET trial (Click here for more info)

Thyroid & parathyroid conditions treated: 

  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Hyperthyroidism (Graves disease, toxic multinodular goiter, solitary toxic adenoma)
  • Thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer (papillary, follicular, medullary, anaplastic)
  • MEN1, 2A, 2B syndromes
  • Paragangliomas, and carotid body tumors

Surgical expertise in thyroid & parathyroid surgery:

  • Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, thyroidectomy 
  • Hemithyroidectomy/lobectomy for thyroid cancers up to 4 cm
  • Recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring, intraoperative PTH, laryngoscopy, office ultrasound
  • Central compartment lymph node dissection, and modified radical neck dissection
  • Thyroid FNA is available, with ultrasound guidance
  • The Veracyte Afirma gene expression classifier (GEC) and Thyroseq v2 is available for indeterminate nodules, to decrease the rate of unnecessary diagnostic thyroidectomy. 
  • Active surveillance (observation) may be offered to selected patients with small papillary thyroid cancers
